An Empty Concert

Amnesty International has been fighting for human rights for 50 years.

But how can you celebrate this anniversary when the people you want to be there cannot as they are being tortured, imprisoned or executed?
That is how the Empty Concert was created: the star singer Milow gave a concert in front of a huge crowd of… empty chairs.

On these chairs were portraits of human rights abuse victims. The people who couldn’t make it.
Only the press was there to report the event and the message from Amnesty’s directors.
The news made it into all media and kickstarted a campaign that increased awareness, signatures, mobilization and donations.
The impact was so great that it contributed to the actual release of six of the victims.
The struggle goes on!
